Maifeld and Phend win at the 2022 Wicked Weekend!

It was such a pleasure being able to attend the 2022 Wicked Weekend! Typically, this race took place very close to the ROAR 1:10 Off-Road Nationals, which left most of the team unable to attend. However, this year the RaceTime crew moved the event to late July allowing everyone to add it to their schedules! The facility is gorgeous. It is our new favorite RaceTime event venue! It’s a giant pavilion with completely open sides allowing a ton of sunshine and fresh air to flow through. It just has such a feel-good vibe to it. They also had a fully loaded concession stand serving marvelous meal options.

The track layout was enjoyed by all the drivers and flowed well. Check out the photo below to see it for yourself! As for tires, drivers mostly relied on the trusty Reflex, Bullet wheels, and Dirt-Tech Inserts. They experimented with the blue and green compounds depending on the weather, watering schedule, and length of the race. Additionally, drivers utilized the new RM2 Insert Bands to help prevent the foams from ballooning. Most drivers sported the S15 body on the buggy and the F2 Body for the Truck. We also saw the typical F2I wing in black, white, yellow, and now grey.

There were double A-Mains for the Electric classes. Ryan Maifield led A1 from start to finish. Cavalieri and Lutz battled for 2nd. Spencer Rivkin and Mason Fuller battled for 4th. Cavalieri was able to hold on to 2nd over Lutz. Toward the end of the race, Fuller was in 4th and Lutz was in 3rd. Fuller made up some time on Lutz and passed him going into the rumble section. There were maybe 60 seconds left in the race. A1 concluded with Maifield, Cavalieri, Fuller, Lutz, and Rivkin as your top 5.

A2 was way more action-packed than A1. Ryan Maifield led the way for about 5 laps. Ryan Cavalieri was in 2nd, Lutz in 3rd, and Phend was in 4th. Around lap 3 Cavalieri got caught on the pipe and Lutz moved into 2nd. Phend also made his way into 3rd. On lap 5 Maifield got caught on the S-Turn pipe which allowed Lutz to take the lead. Maifield was still sitting 2nd and Phend 3rd. Halfway through, Lutz had a small tumble after the straightaway and Maifield got by into the lead. After the dragon’s back, Maifield got caught on the pipe and Lutz/Phend moved by. Lutz rolled it over the last double before the straightaway and Phend took over the lead. Maifield was hunting him down in 2nd. On the next lap, Phend went wide before the straightaway and Maifield took back the lead. However, he got caught on the hole and pipe at the end of the straightaway. Phend took back the lead and kept it for the remainder of the race. Lutz moved into 2nd. The race concluded as Phend, Lutz, Maifield, Cavalieri, and Fuller. Maifield won the tiebreaker for overall.

The Pro Nitro Buggy race was a close one between Ryan Maifield and Ryan Lutz. Maifield led the way with Lutz on his wing. Over the dragon’s back, Lutz squeezed through the inside line and took the lead. After the straightaway, Maifield punched it through the turn and got back out in front. Lutz made the same move taking the inside line over the Dragon’s back once again. He led the way for the next 8 laps. Then on the first double, Lutz got it wrong and Maifield took back the lead for 15 laps.  Maifield went into the pit a little over halfway through and Lutz took back the lead. He was in and out of the pits in no time and back in the hunt! On the next lap, Lutz went into the pit and Maifield took back the lead. From there, Maifield led the rest of the race! Behind that lead battle, Ogden, Cavalieri, and Mason Fuller were battling for 3rd. Cavalieri and Ogden went back and forth for most of the race until they neared the end when Fuller took 3rd and ran with it!

Pro Nitro Truggy: Dakotah Phend (1), Ryan Maifield (2), Mason Fuller (4)

Ryan Maifield led the way with Dakotah Phend on his tail. On the 4th lap, Maifield got caught on the pipe and Phend took over the lead. He led the majority of the race. It was close with Maifield on his wing virtually the entire time. Behind them in 3rd, Tebo and Lutz were battling it out. 25 minutes in, Phend went down the straightaway and got caught in a hole, which made his car spin out a little bit. Maifield got by into the lead. Phend was chasing down Maifield about three laps later, they were drag racing down the front straightaway. Maifield made the turn slightly wide, which allowed Phend to slide through into the lead. He led the remainder of the race for victory!

Overall, we had a blast at the 2022 Wicked Weekend! We couldn’t have asked for a better venue, weather, team atmosphere, and more! Congratulations to Ryan Maifield, Dakotah Phend, Coty Ingram, and Ryan Rand on their wins this weekend! We are so proud of our team and all their hard work. Everyone left it all out on the track this weekend and enjoyed themselves! Up next, we’re prepping for the ROAR 1:10 Off-Road Dirt Nationals in San Diego!
